ALBUQUERQUE — A judge has ordered the city of Albuquerque to sign off on The University of New Mexico's request for liquor licenses for its basketball and football stadiums.

The order from State District Judge Shannon Bacon on Tuesday comes more than two months after an arbitrator ruled the City Council wrongfully rejected UNM's request.

The arbitrator said City Council didn't have evidence that liquor sales would threaten public safety.

The arbitrator also ruled the city was inconsistent in denying alcohol sales at New Mexico sporting events while allowing it at Isotopes Park across the street.

Once signed by the city, UNM's request will go to the state's Regulation and Licensing Department for final approval.
