There's good, and there's Mora good.

It's a big difference between the two, and Santa Fe Preparatory found that out in the Rangerettes' 62-34 win in District 2AA play in Sen. Joseph Montoya Gymnasium on Friday night.

Mora (18-1 overall, 2-0 2AA) simply ran the Blue Griffins out of the gym in the first half, building a 42-15 lead at the break.

It was as simple as Mora making its guests do everything it wanted.

"They were physical and feisty and scrappy and they make you go to parts of the court that you don't want to go to," said Anika Amon, Prep head coach. "They got a lot of points in the first half by beating us downcourt. We've been breaking presses easily this year, but not here."

The Rangerettes were led by Andrea Romero, who had 17 points, and Shantel Rivera added 14 and Angel Valencia 11. Olivia Cicci was the lone double-digit scorer for Prep (5-14, 0-2) with 12 points.

PECOS 51, MONTE DEL SOL 20

The Lady Dragons were in it for a quarter in the District 2AA matchup in Louis G. Sanchez Memorial Gymnasium.

Then reality -- and the Lady Panthers' pressure -- hit.

Pecos (12-6, 1-1) outscored Monte del Sol 32-1 to take a 44-9 lead into the fourth quarter.

"We needed to find the fire we had two or three weeks ago, when we were attacking the ball," said Leroy Barela, Lady Panthers head coach. "We were able to do that. We had 17 steals and whenever you can take 17 possessions away from another team, it tells you how the game went."

Monte del Sol head coach Ralph Casaus felt his team wilted under the pressure after the first quarter.

"After doing so good in the first quarter, it was like, boom, night and day," Casaus said. "We just need to forget this night and start over again and take this as a learning experience."

KeeAnna Trujillo had 16 points to lead Pecos, and Ida Valencia added 11. Alysia Lujan scored 10 for the Lady Dragons, who are 11-6, 0-1.

MESA VISTA 58, MCCURDY SCHOOL 52

It took a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers from Larissa Peña for the Lady Trojans to break open the nondistrict game in Ojo Caliente.

That the Lady Bobcats hit only four of 24 free throws only made Peña's performance all the more important.

"We just couldn't convert [on offense] to keep up," said Ray Roybal, McCurdy head coach. "At least we were able to keep it competitive."

Julia Martinez again recorded a double-double with 24 points and 19 rebounds for Mesa Vista (12-6). McCurdy (11-9) had Miah Martinez score 19 points and Alanna Sanchez add 12.

NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITY ACADEMY 53, SANTA FE WALDORF 26

The Lady Wolves were in it for a half, but they scored just eight points in the second half after staying within 20-18 at the break in the Fort Marcy Complex.

Daniel Wendland, Waldorf's head coach, said his team simply stopped being the aggressor.

"We got tentative, we just didn't play basketball," Wendland said. "We kinda held back a little bit and weren't looking for our shots like we did in the first half."

The Lady Eagles (8-5) did, and scored 33 points in the second half. Tracy Martinez and Lenny Morgan each dropped 15 points overall and combined for 20 in the second half. Breanna Yazzie chipped in with 11.

Sophia Richard led Waldorf (7-10) with 14 points, but only four came in the second half.
